According to the U.S. Census Bureau's 2002 Economic Census, the highest employment was in the computer and electronic products industry (26,963 jobs), printing and related activities (17,920 jobs), and the food manufacturing industry (15,399 jobs). With total value of shipments in 2002 at $36.3 billion, total annual payroll by Maryland manufacturers was $6.4 billion paid to 151,399 workers.
