The Governor appointed the Task Force on Driver's Education Programs in Maryland in September 1999 (Chapter 696, Acts of 1999). The Task Force charge was to examine standards and criteria for driver education programs of other states and of private drivers' schools licensed in Maryland. It also evaluated how to improve such Maryland programs. In addition, the Task Force considered the feasibility and merits of re-establishing driver education programs in the public schools.
On December 31, 1999, the Task Force submitted its report to the Governor and General Assembly.
